On-line Weight Watchers Diet Helper for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and Mobile Phones

At the beginning of December, WeightWatchers.com announced the release of an application for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and PDA mobile phones. It is the first to synchronize with a web-based account via the Internet. Mobile-phone diet applications are becoming increasingly popular. Weight Watchers diet promoters link the phone application to the Web personal account, which provides a useful portable tool for diet assistance.

This makes the diet easier to follow by offering :

  • The possibility of following your weight watch more closely, and of keeping permanent track of your eating
  • A points calculator and tracker. The WeightWatchers diet is based on calculating the points of foods according to a specific formula. This facility provides a ready, helpful tool. It also tracks the points allowance, daily or weekly, helping you to stay within limits
  • The application includes a vast database such as 25,000 food choices, restaurants and groceries
  • An application which updates your web account every time you enter data or calculate.

The application has already gained huge popularity. Over 400,000 buyers have downloaded the application from a popular Web site selling cell-phone applications.

As the popularity of low-carb diets has lost ground throughout 2004 and sales have dropped, the company behind the Atkins Diet is planning to launch a similar product for mobile phones and handheld computers on the market.

The product, available at the beginning of 2005, will be so affordable that it will be within the reach of any dieter. The application is a carbohydrate counter to help dieters track the carbohydrate contents of foods, as well as their own daily carb intake.

The application is a further step within the firm's marketing policy of finding new market segments for the product -- the Atkins diet -- by diversifying the means of popularizing it. In this way it also diversifies the target audience.

An Atkins diet DVD was put on the market and sold during the 2004-2005 holiday season.

Samsung F480 Tocco Review

The Samsung F480 Tocco is a magnificent looking mobile phone, that has a high-end spec making it an extremely attractive smartphone. It is quite a large and heavy phone, measuring 98.4mm x 55mm x 11.6mm and weighing 106 grams. It has a aluminium brushed finish with touches of a metallic blue, which make it really stand out from the crowd. The Tocco F480 is dominated by the large 2.8 inch touch screen, beneath of which there are two call-related keys and a navigation slider.

The built-in music player will support all of the popular music formats, and there is an FM Radio. Internal memory is 223 mega bytes, and this can be increased by using a MicroSD Card. It would have been great if Samsung had borrowed a few Walkman phone features to make the music player more advanced.

The camera has 5 mega pixels, flash, 8 times digital zoom and autofocus. So it definitely has all the 'basics' that you'd expect from a top-end camera phone. However it also has some advanced camera features that include Smile shutter, so that the camera automatically takes a picture when someone smiles and excellent photo editing software.

Application-wise, the Samsung F480 Tocco is absolutely packed. Firstly the touch screen has haptics (vibration) for tactile feedback, making it amazingly easy and fast to navigate through the interface. Apart from the standard applications like calendar, alarm, to do list and clock, there is also an advanced document viewer, for viewing pdf files, and Microsoft documents. All internet formats are supported (HTML and WAP 2.0) and internet connection is super fast with EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth and GPRS.

The Samsung F480 Tocco is a fantastic touch screen mobile phone, that not only looks good, but has a decent music player, top notch camera and excellent user interface and internet connection.

LG KS500 Review

The LG KS500 is a good looking slide mobile phone, from LG. The phone, which measures 102.8 x 49.2 x 14.9 mm and weighs 106 grams, has a 2 inch screen beneath of which you will find a few call-related buttons. There is also a navigation pad, that LG have called an Optical Touchpad. This Optical Touchpad makes is very easy and super fast to navigate the interface of the LG KS500. The slide out keypad is a good size and the keys have a slightly raised profile which does in fact make it easier to type faster.

There is a built-in music player, and this will support the popular music formats like MP3, MP4 and AAC. It also has an FM Radio. Internal memory is ok at 100 mega bytes, and of course this can be increased by using a MicroSD card. Music quality is good although not great, but is perfect for the average listener.

The camera of the LG KS500 has 3 mega pixels, which is sufficient for basic pictures. There is also a second camera located on the front of the phone that can be used for 3G calls. The only real advanced camera feature on the LG KS500 is one called Photo Album, which allows you to store all your pictures in one place in a neat and logical format.

Application-wise the LG KS 500 has the standards of a calendar, alarm, to do list and personal organiser, but there are also some really clever advanced features. These include GPS, Go Maps, and A GPS function. Internet connectivity is good making use of 3G HSDPA, EDGE, GPRS and Bluetooth.

Overall the LG KS500 is an great mobile phone. One if left however with the feeling that LG could have made it that much better by just including more apps and a better music player.
